The Golden State Warriors should 100 percent not look to tank

The Golden State Warriors are going to have a spot in the play-in game if they want it, and while that may not interest Draymond Green, a healthy Stephen Curry could propel the Dubs to at least a shot in the playoffs.

With the ceiling of Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andrew Wiggins in an offense led by Curry, the Warriors should do all they can to give themselves a chance. For a team that has to watch Klay Thompson sit on the sideline, that’s all you can ask for.

While the question of tanking could come into play, there’s no reason the Warriors should consider not giving their all for the remainder of the season.

The Golden State Warriors have a team that can contend with some of the best rosters in the NBA. They’ve beaten the Jazz, Lakers and Clippers, a few of the best teams in the West. That’s why it’s tough to even envision them thinking about tanking away the season.

While that’s not the plan, the Warriors need to cut James Wiseman‘s minutes if they can’t play better defense with him on the court. Getting Wiseman minutes versus putting the best team on the court at all times is a fragile situation.

However, Stephen Curry is playing MVP-caliber basketball. Despite being 33, he’s playing at an elite level, and having a pick a few spots higher is not worth what a fully-energized Curry could do in the postseason.

Prior to their matchup with the Hawks, the Warriors were 22-19 with Curry in the game. He had a red-hot February which was ironically the same month that the Warriors were without Kevon Looney and Wiseman for most games.

It’s not just about Curry though. This team has pieces that are good enough to make noise. Kelly Oubre Jr. has dropped a career-high 40 points in a game which he single-handedly dominated the Mavericks. Wiggins has also been a staple for this team over the last few months.

It’s important for the relatively newer players on this roster to get a sense of the culture that’s been built, and aside from last season, it’s been one where winning has been all the team has known.

This season has been a change for both Steve Kerr and Curry, but they have a roster that’s good enough to get the job done. There’s no denying that tanking would put all their hard work in jeopardy.
