Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry rapidly nearing all-time 3-point record
By Tony Pesta
It’s something we all knew would happen eventually. As the Golden State Warriors enter the home stretch of their season, Stephen Curry is rapidly approaching the all-time 3-point record.
It was only a matter of time. The Golden State Warrilden stors are less than a year away from seeing Stephen Curry make history once again.
Ray Allen has led the basketball world in career 3-pointers for over a decade now. The Hall of Famer drilled 2,973 total 3-pointers throughout his 1,300 career games. Truly a remarkable feat… in which Curry is set to surpass just over half the amount of games.
Curry is sitting at 2,730 total 3-pointers in 746 career regular-season games. Curry has already set the record for single-season 3-pointers multiple times and we are getting close to seeing him break this record as well.
At his current career average, Curry will become the NBA’s all-time leader in just over 65 games. However, if we factor in the rate he’s been hitting 3-pointers this season (5.0 per game), he’ll do it in under 50 games. Even crazier, Curry could pass Allen in his next 36 games if he continues drilling 3-pointers like he has been in April (6.6 per game).
Obviously, Allen and Curry played at vastly different times. For reference, Curry’s 8.4 attempts per game is nearly double the amount Allen was hoising (5.7). Even so, there’s no debate that Curry’s unlimited range and impeccable handle helped separate him from the pack.
It’s not surprising at all that Curry is going to claim his rightful throne as the undisputed greatest shooter of all time. While there are some younger players set to challenge Allen’s record in the future, with players like James Harden, Damian Lillard and Trae Young at historic paces, it will be hard to imagine anyone catching Curry and the insane total he’s going to finish with when it’s all said and done.
