Golden State Warriors to likely not return: Kelly Oubre Jr.

Sadly, for Kelly Oubre Jr., it’s almost strictly about his value on the market against the value that the Warriors could offer him. He’s set to become a free agent after being traded to Golden State this past offseason.

The Dubs used a trade exception to bring him in, and they won’t have the financial strength to bring him back on a deal that hits eight figures. While he’s been extremely inconsistent in his play, Oubre Jr. has shown enough to get a big-time deal.

This season, he’s averaging 15.3 points per game, down from the 18.7 per game average he had a season ago. So his scoring hasn’t been the same, but the shooting, defense, and athleticism are clearly there.

While he had room to get a bigger deal this offseason, he’s shown enough to get a deal the Dubs can’t match. Hitting 1.6 triples per game, Oubre Jr., at just 25 years old, will be a coveted free agent and one the Dubs won’t be able to retain.

Bazemore and Mulder won’t be back due to the team’s surplus of talent at the two, and Oubre Jr. will just outprice Golden State. Sadly, all three not returning to the Bay next season makes sense.
