Golden State Warriors player with the most to prove: Kelly Oubre Jr.
This one should be obvious, and Oubre Jr. needs to be better not only for the Warriors’ sake but for his own sake. Oubre Jr. is in a contract season, so while everyone knows what he’s capable of, the high-flying guard needs to show a more consistent offensive game.
In the Bay Area, Oubre Jr.’s shooting has taken a hit which is relatively abnormal as players last season like Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks came to the Golden State and immediately started thriving as compared to their previous seasons.
For Oubre Jr., he’s been a great addition, but at times, his only value is as an energetic defender, a problem with a player set for a contract that’s potentially over $18 million annually. He’s shooting 43.9 percent from the field, down from 45.4 percent the season before.
At just 25, Oubre Jr. will get big-time offers as he has sky-high potential as a playmaker.
However, if he can put on display an improved three-point shot these last few weeks, Oubre Jr. may earn himself a bigger payday this offseason. He’s currently averaging 15.3 points (1.6 threes), 6.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
