Stephen Curry could realistically hit 100 threes in April
The Golden State Warriors lost four of their last five games to end the month of March. Due to Stephen Curry‘s absolute eruption in April, they’ve been able to finally get back above .500. Curry had a historic month, and there are still two games remaining.
The historic part comes when seeing that Curry has already knocked down 85 threes, the most in a calendar month in league history. With two games still to be played, he could realistically be the first player to hit 100 threes in a month.
Stephen Curry has already set the NBA’s record for most three-point field goals made in a month, and he still has two games to go.
Curry’s had four games of 10-or-more triples. There’s only one player in NBA history with more than that in a career, and it’s Curry’s superstar teammate Klay Thompson. Sadly, Thompson has been sidelined for the past two seasons.
That said, Curry’s last two games of the month are against the Mavericks and Timberwolves. He’s currently averaging 6.5 triples per game, recently coming off an effort that included seven triples, 37 points, and a win over Sacramento.
Curry missed the team’s second game in the month, so he did have a minor setback with that. Although he has the record, distancing himself from anyone that could come after him is what he should be about.
This season, Curry is averaging 7.5 triples per game against the Mavericks and 5.5 per game against the Wolves, so the odds are in his favor to near three digits. But, it would still take at least 15 in two games which is no easy task.
Curry could make that look easy though, and we’ve learned this past month to not take his handles for granted either as that’s been partially what’s been able to keep defenders so honest.
Combine that with the team typically just looking at him for production, and you have these insane numbers. Curry’s been so much more than just a shooter, one reason he’s not the league’s leader in points per game.
It’s been an incredible run, and in April, Curry’s at 38.1 points per game. While he likely won’t get MVP, Curry knows he’s playing like the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, as does head coach Steve Kerr.
With the Warriors’ offense almost solely running through Curry, expect this insane streak to continue against the Mavericks tonight.
