Golden State Warrior that hasn’t met expectations: Kevon Looney
A former first-round pick of the organization, Kevon Looney wasn’t looking like he’d be a long-term option for the team until the Dubs played the Houston Rockets in the 2019 playoffs.
Looney was an absolute monster, grabbing offensive rebounds and capably switching on James Harden. That versatility and impact are why he’s one of the only players on this team making above a minimum-value salary.
Now, they need him to do more, specifically on the offensive end. With James Wiseman out for the remainder of the season, Looney can no longer afford to averaged under eight points per game. He’s not even hitting four per game this season.
Looney has averaged 4.5 points per game in over 24 minutes of play during these past two games. As the sole Warrior that really gets time in a traditional center role, Looney must be more impactful, and it starts with shooting more than three field goals a game.
He needs to be a more consistent option off pick-and-rolls with Curry. Looney has been doing what he can, but he needs to do more for this team to have a shot.
