Warriors player competing for his next contract: Damion Lee

The Golden State Warriors were banged up quite a bit last season. As we noted, Lee, along with JTA and Mulder, benefitted from them not having their two superstars for the bulk of the season. So his decline in numbers this season isn’t the most shocking.

Lee is averaging 6.5 points per game. While he likely has a future in the Bay Area, he’s certainly still a player looking to make a name for himself.

With a partially guaranteed deal next season, Lee needs to get back on the court and prove his worth. It seems pointless for Golden State to hang on to Mulder, Lee, and Bazemore once Klay Thompson returns.

As with Mulder, Lee’s primary strength is as a shooter. He’s knocking down 1.4 triples per game and nearing 40 percent on those attempts. He’s shooting a career-high 46.7 percent from the field as well.

Lee has missed the last six games, allowing Bazemore and Mulder to step up and shine. Once he’s back, it’ll be interesting how the minutes are split up. Regardless of how Kerr does it, I’d be shocked if Lee wasn’t back next season.
