Warriors player competing for his next contract: Kelly Oubre Jr.

Sadly, with a torn ligament in his hand and a fracture in his palm, Kelly Oubre Jr. may not play another game as a Warrior. Now, he did play through the pain, and he plans to get reevaluated to see if he can continue to do that.

Oubre Jr. may want to come back this season. While he’ll be a prime target for some teams, Oubre Jr. won’t be getting as big of a contract as he could’ve.

After nearing 19 points per game last season, Oubre Jr.’s scoring and efficiency have both dwindled this season, averaging 15.4 points per game and shooting under 44 percent from the field for the first time in the past few seasons.

What’s been clear is that Oubre Jr. is going to bring it on a nightly basis. The energy is there, and hopefully, the shooting will return. The Warriors, who are in play-in tournament position, would love to get him and allow him to be a part of their postseason run.

A pending free agent, he’ll also be fighting for a larger contract, and he hasn’t necessarily shown enough this season to be a max-value player. The market will be there, but the big-time contract may not be…. yet.
