Golden State Warriors player with most to lose: Kevon Looney
Center Kevon Looney has the most to lose in the play-in tournament. After having a solid few games against the Rockets in the 2019 playoffs, Looney signed a three-year contract with the Warriors.
Looney will be getting all the minutes he can handle. With 2020 No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman out for the season, Looney has been the Dubs’ only real option at the five. The team has since added former second-round pick Jordan Bell.
Looney should still be getting big-time minutes for Steve Kerr‘s Warriors. However, he’ll need to start doing more. This season, Looney is averaging just four points per game in 18.5 minutes of action.
That’s the worst per 36 minutes scoring average of his career, so he’s clearly not quite as impactful as usual. While Looney’s rebounding is at 5.0 boards per game, his offensive rebounding rate is at the worst of his career as well.
While Looney is typically the fifth option, he needs to do more, and it could be as simple as being able to get more boards. Nonetheless, as one of the only players making above a minimum salary, the team needs more from their big man.
