Golden State Warriors player with most to lose: Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins has had a career full of controversy.

Whether it’s if he’s just a scorer or whether he actually cares about playing basketball, Wiggins has oftentimes been under fire for not being as good as the numbers show. Finally, on a team that is bound for the playoffs, he can re-write his story by stepping up when it matters most.

More from Blue Man Hoop

Wiggins has been solid this season for the Warriors after being featured in the D’Angelo Russell trade prior to the 2020 deadline. While he has struggled at times, the former No. 1 overall pick has done almost exactly what the team has asked of him throughout the season.

Averaging 18.3 points per game, Wiggins isn’t scoring as much as he’s used to, but he’s been shooting the highest rates of his career which is more important for a team led by a two-time MVP.

Wiggins is shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep, both the highest rates of his career. It’s been important for Wiggins to be efficient. That said, he needs to be the star that many thought he would be on the league’s biggest stage.

The play-in tournament can offer him that, and he needs to take advantage for the sake of both his legacy and future in Golden State. A max-contract player, Wiggins could easily be dealt this offseason if he can’t prove his value in the play-in tournament.
