Golden State Warriors potential free-agent target: Ish Smith

Another point guard the Warriors should seriously consider is Ish Smith. Smith is currently serving as Russell Westbrook’s backup in the nation’s capital. While he’s scoring just 6.4 points per game, Smith is playing under two quarters per game.

Originally undrafted out of Wake Forest, Smith kicked off his career in 2010 with the Houston Rockets. He’s played just about everywhere, even a six-game stint in Golden State earlier on in his career.

With three double-figure seasons under his belt, Smith is now more of a backup option for teams. He still has an ability to shoot though, averaging just over 38 percent from deep despite attempting just over one three per game.

At 6-foot, Smith is more of a floor general than Mills. He can lead the second unit, get them into their sets, and the bring the energy on a nightly basis. Adding Smith isn’t that high-profile signing fans may want, but it’s one that could win them games if Curry were to miss time.

While undersized, Smith has proven that he can play at the highest level, and a cheap option, Smith brings almost everything the Dubs could ask for from a backup point guard.
