Golden State Warriors NBA Draft target: Jonathan Kuminga

One of the most hyped NBA Draft prospects coming out of high school, Jonathan Kuminga opted out of playing in college and instead joined the G-Leauge Ignite. How did that impact his draft status?

Pros

Kuminga has everything you want in a modern-day NBA wing. Great size, fluid athleticism and versatile ball handling. Kuminga can easily make himself a valuable player but rounding out his game and turning into a secondary playmaker in the frontcourt.

Perhaps his greatest strength is scoring in the paint. He scored nearly 16 points per game in the G-League and shot close to 50 percent on non-3-point attempts. Kuminga also snagged 7.2 rebounds a night, showing he can take the ball from end-to-end as a transition threat.

Cons

Choosing to play against tougher competition in the G-League may have hurt Kuminga. His overall efficiency was underwhelming and the growing pains were obvious. There is now an issue of determining if Kuminga is simply struggling to put it all together or if this was a result of playing higher competition. Regardless, his 24.6 percent clip from the 3-point line is a concern.

Best Role

It will be hard for Kuminga to earn minutes for the Golden State Warriors, or any team for that matter, if he can’t improve as a shooter. Assuming he can jump to around league-average as a 3-point shooter and polish his creative skills, Kuminga has a promising future as a versatile wing that can play multiple positions.
