Believe it or not, Stephen Curry has never played for the USA Olympic team. With the Golden State Warriors missing the playoffs and a long offseason ahead, there will never be a more perfect time for Curry to suit up for his country.

Stephen Curry will have plenty of time to rest this summer before making his official debut for the USA Men’s Olympic Basketball team.

Back in March, Curry and Draymond Green were both named finalists to compete in the 2021 Olympics. It is highly unlikely Klay Thompson will play as he isn’t even certain he will be available to play by opening night of next season.

Green was a member of the 2016 Gold Medal team while Curry’s only experience came in the form of the 2010 and 2014 Fiba World Cup tournaments. Overall, Curry averages 7.9 points internationally and holds an 18-0 record when representing team USA.

It goes without saying that the rest of the world has been spared from seeing Curry fully unleashed on the big stage. Since hitting his superstar prime, Curry hasn’t had a chance to hit the Olympics. It would have been amazing to see him in 2016 but a nagging knee injury held him out.

This time around, however, nothing is stopping Curry from making his debut. The Warriors missed the playoffs, ensuring the two-time MVP will now have plenty of time to rest before going to Tokyo.

This could also mean the reunion of Curry and Kevin Durant, with both stars potentially available to play this summer. Meanwhile, Andrew Wiggins has already committed to play for Canada.

The 2021 Summer Olympics are set to start on July 23 and conclude by August 8. Assuming the next NBA season starts around regular time, this opens a perfect window for Curry to compete overseas and then return for another prolific chapter with the Golden State Warriors.
