Warriors potential NBA prospect — Draft: Franz Wagner

One of the most popular mock draft candidates to the Warriors, Franz is an ideal match in terms of value, skill set, and fit.

A large wing at 6-foot-9 220 pounds, he’s an excellent lateral defender who thrives in perimeter situations by not doing too much. His footwork, length, and instincts annoy opposing offenses to no end.

Wagner (pronounced vog-ner) isn’t your traditional definition of an athlete, but he wins with superb coordination, balance, and lateral motion. His defense alone makes him a strong fit, but what makes him perfect is the offensive efficiency and penchant for creation.

His height and ability to pass off the dribble make him a lethal passer from all angles and situations. Franz is also fantastic at taking care of the ball, something that plagued the Warriors all season.

According to HoopsWill (who does excellent draft analysis), Franz has the fifth-best A:TO ratio of draft-eligible prospects while boasting a .587 true shooting percentage. Doing this with a blend of on and off-ball shot creation, both for himself and others, makes you an ideal fit for a motion offense.

All this for a 19-year-old with room to grow is incredibly impressive. He’s the kind of player that could fall to the Dubs around the 14th pick and will have GMs who passed on him scratching their heads sooner than later.
