It’s a win-win situation if the Golden State Warriors give superstar point guard Stephen Curry a big-time extension this offseason. Despite being in the back half of his career, the two-time MVP has earned another massive payday.

At 33 years old, Curry just managed to secure his second scoring title despite his Warriors not being able to actually crack the playoffs. It was far from Curry’s fault though as he was the only real, consistent threat for opponents.

The Warriors need to be proactive with Stephen Curry’s contract situation. Getting an extension done this offseason should be paramount for the franchise.

Curry ended the season averaging 32 points per game, the most of his career.

While it’d be amazing if his game didn’t show some of his age by the end of next season, Curry is the type of player that should be able to produce even at an older age. It’s his shooting that’ll propel him later in his career.

That said, Curry was the highest-paid player in the NBA this season.

He’ll be the highest-paid player in the league next season as well. Curry will be 34 when he’s set to sign a new contract, and with at least three more capable seasons left, he’ll undoubtedly be searching for another massive payday.

The Dubs should be preparing to potentially give him another supermax extension. If he accepts that, assuming it’s offered, he’d be the first player in league history to have two contracts worth over $200 million each.

There are only unfortunate situations that could take place if the Dubs don’t extend Curry. While Curry has proven himself time and time again, if he has an injury-plagued season in 2022, could the team re-consider using the bulk of their cap on him?

On the flip side, what if Curry dominates and wants to cement his name at the top of the league’s greats? Aiming for more titles elsewhere could come at a cost of turning away from the Warriors. Both of those seem at least possible if he isn’t extended.

Even if the first comes to fruition, fans wouldn’t mind having him locked up.

No Lakers fan complained about Kobe’s last few seasons that the team struggled after almost two decades of excellence. Given the pieces Golden State has and where they are in their careers, even with Curry at 36, this team should be able to put a product on the court that can win.

With that in mind, the Warriors only have a winning situation in extending Curry, and it should be something they highly consider this offseason.
