We know this offseason will be an important one for the Golden State Warriors, but there’s no denying that next year they’ll be under even more stress. The 2022 offseason will be a pivotal one for Golden State.

For starters, Stephen Curry is going to be up for a new contract, that’s the story all eyes will be on. While it feels almost unthinkable that he’d leave, how the Warriors dictate both this offseason and next could either solidify his next contract or force him out.

The Golden State Warriors have an important offseason ahead of them, but thinking long-term, the 2022 offseason could be even more crucial.

An extension this offseason would be a win-win situation and calm those in the Bay Area that think LeBron James may be recruiting the two-time MVP.

Now, with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green both locked up till after the 2021-2022 season, there’s a high probability that Curry does return, but he’ll be nearing 35 then and could use some help leading one of the league’s top franchises.

It’ll be on the Warriors front office to get him that help, assuming Andrew Wiggins takes even a marginal step back this next season.

The 2022 offseason, much like the 2016 offseason in which they added Kevin Durant, will have that help available. Durant and Bradley Beal, among many other stars, will both have player options which they could easily opt out of.

Wiggins played well for Golden State, but there’s no denying that if a big-name player like Paul George becomes available, Wiggans and a player like James Wiseman could potentially be on the way out.

It’s a tough situation for Myers as he’s stuck between building a quality future and winning in the present. It’s assumed he’d win in the present. Navigating a cap, knowing another $200 million deal for Curry could be coming, also isn’t easy.

Without any major key piece up for a new deal, the Warriors don’t have much to stress about except Klay Thompson’s hopeful return. However, if things go sideways this next season, it could make the 2022 offseason one of the most important in recent history.

That said, if the Warriors come up short like they did in 2015, that offseason could also be used to retool and reload their roster that may again be one superstar piece away from being the best in the league.
