With the hopeful return of shooting guard Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors may have what it takes to become true title contenders, but the last time they were in this position, they had Kevin Durant.

Do they need a big-time trade to make them truly competitive with teams like Utah and Phoenix?

The Golden State Warriors aren’t going to have a Big 4 unless they make a blockbuster trade, but one may not be necessary for them to be title contenders.

Next season, if everything goes as planned, the Golden State Warriors will have their Big 3 back on the court for a regular-season game for the first time since spring of 2019. It will be a special moment having Thompson play in the Chase Center.

But, with the Big 3 aging, will they be able to contend without a fourth superstar? The easy answer is yes, and given two-time MVP Stephen Curry‘s high level of play, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them go drastically further than they did this season.

However, as the Dubs know better than most, it takes a special team to win a title. While having some luck does help along the way, any team may have to compete with the star-studded Brooklyn Nets.

The Warriors, with their Big 3, should be able to do that, but there’s no denying another player that is extremely skilled would benefit them. With players on the market or those that will likely be on the market, the Dubs will have the chance to upgrade.

The only question is whether they should mortgage the future if the right deals come along. They’ll have two lottery picks in the upcoming NBA Draft, and with those and James Wiseman, it may not be easy integrating the future with the current.

Draymond Green spoke negatively on how the Wizards are doing just that, so where his mindset is clear. The Warriors will have the assets to make a splash trade, and in my opinion, if the star is someone like Paul George, then they should do it without hesitation.

Now, it gets a bit murkier if that star is a tier down. Is Kristaps Porzingis worth dealing Wiseman and one of their lottery picks for? After his performance in the playoffs, it’s tough to gauge where his value currently is.

Nonetheless, the Warriors are in a position where a blockbuster trade certainly isn’t necessary, but it may be ideal.
