The Golden State Warriors’ next few months will be interesting. With many players set to hit the open market, the Dubs will be looking to reload at a discount. That will be especially difficult considering they want to bring back Kelly Oubre Jr.

The 25-year-old shooting guard was relatively disappointing in his first season with Golden State.

Kelly Oubre Jr. may sign with the New York Knicks this offseason, and there could be little the Golden State Warriors are able to do about it.

Having missed the team’s two play-in tournament games and 15 of the last 20 regular-season games, Oubre Jr. wasn’t available when it mattered most. Now that won’t be held against him as he did do his best to play through the injury.

But, combine not seeing him under the season’s brightest lights and hopefully having five-time All-Star guard Klay Thompson return, and Oubre Jr. may not see the $20 million he’s desiring. Oubre Jr. should field other offers; it’d just be smart to test the market.

Teams will have interest, and one reportedly already does. NY Post’s Marc Berman noted that a source told him the Knicks and Oubre Jr. have “mutual interest.” Honestly, if Oubre Jr. doesn’t return, New York would be a great spot for him.

Let’s dive into three reasons why that’s true.
