Golden State Warriors shouldn’t trade James Wiseman

The case for keeping James Wiseman in a Golden State Warriors’ uniform is simple. Do you want to trade a young star before he hits his prime and regret the missed opportunity?  Probably not.

The overarching question is, how high is Wiseman’s ceiling? Is he a future All-Star center, playing Rudy Gobert level defense and spacing the floor like prime Chris Bosh? Or is Wiseman going to end up faltering every step of the way. At this stage, it’s really hard to tell.

And, that’s precisely what makes trading Wiseman so hard for the Dubs. This kid has hardly played basketball above a high school level. After all, he competed in just three collegiate games and had a rushed NBA training camp, with his rookie season being cut short due to a knee injury.

Wiseman’s small sample size on the court wasn’t great, but you’re lying if you weren’t impressed by his mobility and jaw-dropping athleticism in transition. No matter what you’re opinion is of Wiseman’s future, you can’t deny he is a few developments away from being a serious two-way threat.

For this reason, it’s very difficult to feel comfortable trading Wiseman. Unless the Warriors can get a bonafide superstar in return, which will be difficult, to stay the least, then they really shouldn’t let go of this young talent.
