Golden State Warriors need a Kelly Oubre replacement

For all the reasons I’ve mentioned so far, I still would not suggest the Golden State Warriors trade for Kyle Kuzma if it wasn’t a direct response to potentially losing Kelly Oubre. If Oubre is set on leaving, then this is one of the best and most realistic replacements the Dubs can get for him.

Kuzma is far from being the defender that Oubre has become, and he’s not even really as good of a shooter as Oubre (With Oubre being a relatively average shooter, overall). Still, Kuzma has improved on both ends of the floor and can take another step forward in Golden State.

Kuzma was actually a decent defender in his series against Phoenix. His long frame and athleticism have always made him a potentially versatile defender and we saw him slowly embrace this role. Perhaps he could continue on this path when playing alongside Draymond Green.

As for shooting, Kuzma has been hovering at league average for the last two seasons. But, as previously stated, he might feel more comfortable in the Warriors’ offense. If he can match Oubre’s efficiency from deep then this is about as good of a replacement as the Warriors can get in such short notice.
