Golden State Warriors frontcourt target: JaVale McGee

JaVale McGee has a similar skillset to Boban, but he’s far more athletic which is a positive.

McGee can roll to the rim, protect the rim and mentor James Wiseman. Having been in the league for over a decade and having spent time with both LeBron James and Stephen Curry, McGee has seen it all. He’s won two rings with Golden State.

That type of relationship that is already formed is why the Warriors should consider bringing him back. As we saw with Andre Iguodala, understanding a role and understanding how to play alongside the Big 3 is critical.

McGee’s numbers aren’t the best. He’s averaging just 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Those blossom to 17.9 and 12.7 respectively per 36 minutes. Having spent most of his time on the bench in Denver given the heavy minutes put on Nikola Jokic, McGee did see the floor much.

In Golden State, he could be the late-game option at the center. The spot should be there for him if he wants back in the league, and his experience with the organization would give him a big boost ahead of other frontcourt players.

Verdict: Pursue
