Golden State Warriors: Best/Worst case scenario for NBA Draft Lottery
By Tony Pesta
Golden State Warriors worst-case scenario in 2021 NBA Draft Lottery
It would really, really hurt the Golden State Warriors if Minnesota retains their first round pick and they are left with just the 14th pick in this upcoming draft. Not only does this limit their ability to add young talent but it restricts their entire offseason.
Look at it this way, the Warriors are in need of more capable players to surround Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green with a good enough supporting cast to win a title. One option is to draft a rising star, while the other is to package up their assets and trade for a certified contributor.
Both of these options are out of the door if the Dubs strikeout in the lottery.
Thankfully, the odds are on the Warriors’ side. Since Minnesota closed the year out strong, their status in the lottery declined. The Wolves have just a 30 percent chance of landing a top-three pick, giving the Warriors a 70 percent chance of acquiring the pick.
And yet, 30 percent is still a decent likelihood of getting screwed over. With such limited cap space this offseason, the Dubs will be in murky waters when it comes to adding more talent if they lose this pick.
