Stephen Curry’s former teammate Warriors should sign: DeMarcus Cousins
As with McGee, DeMarcus Cousins would be a relatively high-risk addition, but the payoff for adding a player with his skill set could also be enormous. As we’re seeing with his play in Los Angeles, Cousins isn’t the player he once was.
After all, that’s what an Achilles tear, an ACL tear, and a quad tear will do to you when you’re 6-foot-11. Prior to the first of those three, Cousins was among the best big men in the NBA, averaging over 25 points per game.
After tearing his Achilles, he started rehab and signed with the Warriors. In Golden State, he averaged 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. It was his last truly impactful season. He then signed with the Lakers and tore his ACL in the preseason, missing the entire year.
Cousins is a free agent after spending this past season with the Clippers. Not used often, there’s no telling if he is planning to re-sign or not. He averaged 8.9 points per game this past season. Still only 30, the Warriors could use his size and short bursts of production.
It would be a win-win scenario to bring him back.
