With the Golden State Warriors being on the edge of contending for a title, there have been rumors mustering around that they’ll be doing what they can to create a team that can compete at the highest level.

While Wiseman played well for most of the season, there’s no denying that the team could be better off with the pieces that they bring back in a trade. However, getting the right value would be a problem as the Dubs still have hope for the young center.

The Golden State Warriors are not currently shopping James Wiseman. Wiseman’s name will undoubtedly still be tossed around in trade rumors.

As it currently stands, the Warriors haven’t talked internally about trading Wiseman, a good sign that the team is planning to retain the 20-year-old.  The report first surfaced from Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer.

"“Assessing Wiseman’s value is one of the trickier challenges on the NBA trade market. To be clear, Golden State has had no serious internal discussions on moving the 20-year-old center whom the Warriors drafted No. 2 a year ago, sources told B/R,” Fischer wrote."

Wiseman was drafted over LaMelo Ball, who was the 2020-2021 Rookie of the Year, so he has a bit of ground to make up in order to make Golden State look good for passing on the youngest Ball brother. That said, Wiseman had a comparable rookie season to Chris Bosh.

It’d be nice to see the left-handed center continue in that trajectory. Wiseman averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He barely missed a block per game, so his prowess as a rim protector isn’t quite there yet.

Wiseman also tallied around 3.1 fouls per game and that bounced up to 5.2 fouls per 36 minutes, so playing without fouling is going to be something Wiseman must learn moving forward. There should certainly be hope that he can do that though.

The ceiling is high for Wiseman who showed a touch of three-point shooting during his rookie season as well. He may not be a superstar anytime soon, but at least for now, it’s nice to see that the organization and front office and willing to keep the faith in his potential.

Now, they did say similar things about D’Angelo Russell who was traded, so we’ll see how they react when the deals start to come in. That’s what will truly dictate Wiseman’s worth, and it could also be what gets him traded.

If a Myles Turner or Bradley Beal-type player is available, there’s no denying that the front office could make the move to part ways with the 7-foot center. Nonetheless, for now, nothing is brewing.
