Golden State Warriors cut their losses and move up in NBA Draft

I don’t think the Golden State Warriors should make a trade just for the sake of shaking things up this offseason. However, it is clear the front office is on the hot seat and needs to do something to add talent to this roster.

Because of this, an opportunity to flip Kelly Oubre Jr. for anything and bring in a top-three pick could pique the Warriors’ interest. It isn’t a perfect deal but let’s see how swapping with Cleveland can help the Dubs cut their losses this summer.

Let’s just assume Oubre is walking out the door either way. The Warriors would avoid losing him for nothing if they convince Oubre to agree to a sign-and-trade to Cleveland. In return, Golden State gains a valuable forward in Larry Nance, who had a career-best season as a versatile defender, playmaker and floor spacer. Furthermore, the Dubs gain an offensive-oriented backup point guard (Damyean Dotson) to help patch up their second unit.

Most of all, the Warriors move up in the draft and earn the opportunity to select either Jalen Green or Jalen Suggs, two electric prospects who could become franchise cornerstones for the future.

It is hard to see the Cavs giving up their pick considering the position they are in, but reports suggest they are open to trading. Regardless, this one is the least likely on our list. The truth is, this deal doesn’t do quite enough to satisfy both sides in the long run.
