Golden State Warriors take a shot at Ben Simmons
I’ve already explained why the Golden State Warriors should look the other way if Philly makes a call offering Ben Simmons. Nevertheless, the Dubs ultimately have a package strong enough to win the Simmons sweepstakes and it’s time to really consider it.
Let’s start by addressing why Simmons is a troublesome fit. It doesn’t take much more than to simply say, he’s a restricted offensive talent with a lack of heart that was on full display as his team collapsed versus Atlanta.
And yet, his value as an All-NBA level defender, elite playmaking and impressive athleticism make him a dream-like fit next to the Splash Brothers. He’d probably play the small-ball four perfectly, somewhat similar to what Andre Iguodala did in the previous death lineups. The only difference is, Simmons is 6’11”.
I’m still skeptical of trading for Simmons. The worst part is his massive contract means giving up the likes of Andrew Wiggins to match his salary. This complicates everything as without Wiggins there are no other shot creators on this team capable of relieving Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. I guess the argument here would be Simmons’ playmaking accomplishes that job… but again, I’m skeptical.
