Golden State Warriors should target Robert Covington

After falling short in the playoffs each season, the Portland Trail Blazers are well on their way to spicing things up. They’ve already hired a new head coach in Chauncey Billups and no one should be surprised if some trades soon follow.

One player who is likely to be included in packages is Robert Covington. The veteran wing is an enticing prospect even at 30 years old due to his relatively cheap contract. Again, he is a prime candidate to be flipped in a Kelly Oubre sign-and-trade.

Covington does a pretty good job of replacing what Oubre brought to the Dubs. They play the same position and with similar styles. However, Covington is far more experienced and reliable at this stage in his career. Of course, Oubre has the benefit of being a spry young athlete with room for improvement.

For the Dubs, gaining Covington gives them a bit of consistency. They know what to expect from him and can trust him in key moments. Covington shot close to 40 percent from the 3-point line last year and was a vital cog in Portland’s otherwise subpar defense. His fit in Golden State is obvious and he should be on their radar.
