Golden State Warriors should watch Damian Lillard

Reality is setting in for Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers. I don’t see many ways this roster can improve enough to get them over the hump. It might be time for Lillard to “run away from the grind,” after all.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the Blazers’ recent coaching hire of Chauncey Billups, combined with their limited room for growth could all be the deciding factors in finally pushing Dame out of Portland.

If so, Lillard would be more than welcomed to play in his hometown of the Bay Area. The Golden State Warriors have a worthy package for him and could use his elite scoring throughout their next few title runs. It’s hard to imagine any team will be able to defend the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Lillard.

Taking a shot at Lillard would likely mean giving up nearly everything the Dubs have. Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman and a multitude of picks will be required. Even then, the Blazers might hold tight to their superstar.

Still, a chance at Lillard is one the Dubs shouldn’t pass up. Sure, fitting three guards next to each other could be a challenge. Losing the 3-and-D assistance of Wiggins and a potential star center in Wiseman doesn’t help, either.

Even if the fit isn’t perfect, you’re still throwing together three of the best scorers in modern NBA history. By using their remaining cap to sign a quality vet and potentially even retain Kelly Oubre, there is no doubt this team would be a championship contender for years to come.
