Overrated free agent the Warriors should pass on: Wesley Matthews

Another player the Warriors should have their eye but ultimately pass on is shooting guard Wesley Matthews. He’s a sniper that spent of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, having recently played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.

Behind guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope at the two, Matthews didn’t see much time in the Lakers’ six playoff games. Matthews averaged 5.5 points per game and shot just 30 percent from the field. He hit 1.2 threes per game and shot 28 percent from deep.

Matthews is aging and is now 34.

He’s an attractive free agent due to his ability to defend and both shoot; however, his latest stint in Los Angeles should turn most away. Even in his 58 regular-season games, he hit just 35 percent of his attempts from the field.

Matthews averaged a career-low 4.8 points per game. It was a rough season as more of an afterthought than a premier sharpshooter. For that reason, the Warriors should pass on Matthews.
