Golden State Warriors: Pass or pursue with 8 new offseason targets
By Tony Pesta
Golden State Warriors should pass on Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons is another player that has been frequent in trade rumors this offseason. Since the Philadelphia 76ers collapse in the second round, everyone is ready to break up the process. And, it might be time to do so.
It’s tough to win in today’s NBA with a point guard who isn’t a reliable 3-point shooter. Let alone, a guard who quite literally refuses to shoot the ball. This limitation comes to its pinnacle every postseason and is a major reason the Warriors, and other teams should stay away from Simmons.
For all the great things he brings to the floor in terms of defense, playmaking and even scoring in the paint, Simmons will never be a primary player on a championship-contending team if he doesn’t improve. The worst aspect of all, he doesn’t seem to have any heart or determination to do so.
There was something very troubling watching Simmons flameout against Atlanta this year. Without even mentioning the amount Golden State would need to give up to obtain him — let’s just move forward and say pass.
