Golden State Warriors NBA Draft profiles: Davion Mitchell

Cons of Golden State Warriors drafting Davion Mitchell
What could possibly hold Davion Mitchell back from finding success with the Golden State Warriors? Well, I guess we will start with his size.
Standing at just 6’0″, Mitchell is undersized for an NBA guard. Much of this is compensated for by his stocky build and muscular frame but it should be noted that this lack of size could hinder his ability to make an impact on the defensive end. Of course, we can look to players like Chris Paul and Marcus Smart to rebuke this potential downside.
Nevertheless, Mitchell will have to be a special defender to overcome his size. And, he’s gonna have to prove he can shoot the 3-pointer consistently in order to remain on the floor at the NBA level. He shot 28 percent as a freshman and just 32 percent as a junior before hitting a red-hot 44 percent of his attempts last season.
The Warriors will really be hurting if Mitchell fails to defend and shoot at a high level. However, they can rest assured that he has put in the work to improve as a shooter and his resume as a defender in college is strong, winning the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Mitchell seems like a very safe pick for the Warriors with only a few things that could potentially go wrong. Don’t be surprised if the Dubs call his name on draft night.
