Golden State Warriors can improve through free agency

The above two options are something the Golden State Warriors can discuss among themselves. Should they hold onto their NBA Draft picks or trade them for something else? There is an argument to be made for both decisions.

However, there is absolutely not a single reason the Warriors should not take full advantage of the upcoming free agency class and their near $6 million dollar mid-level exception. This offseason will be a complete failure if they don’t sign anyone helpful.

Golden State has a decent track record when it comes to free agency. They hit a grand slam in 2016 with the addition of Kevin Durant, but have also picked up names such as Andre Iguodala, JaVale McGee, Shaun Livingston, Nick Young, David West, Leandro Barbosa, Matt Barnes and Kent Bazemore.

Again, there’s no reason to expect the Dubs don’t add someone of talent this offseason. With veteran players like J.J. Reddick, Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, P.J. Tucker, Jeff Green, Wesley Matthews, Patrick Mills, Derrick Rose and potentially even Kevin Love, the Warriors have to be aggressive.

Adding a vet who can lead the second unit and bolster the Warriors’ lockerroom with a bit more experience would be monumental in helping them compete for a championship next season. Free agency is where the Warriors need to make their biggest improvements.
