Warriors Draft Prospect Jonathan Kuminga: Offensive Growth Areas

Where Kuminga falls offensively in the NBA is a fine line to walk.

How deeply you read into his play in the G-League is another question. He went from a non-shooter in AAU to jacking five threes a game in the G-League, spending more time there than he did at the line.

Maybe he got bullied out of the paint often and settled for jumpers; maybe he knew what shots he can normally get and wanted to work on something new.

Here’s a rather drastic stat: Kuminga racked up 51 FGA and 37 FTA to nine threes attempted in his time at AAU. With the Ignite, he took 186 shots, 48 free throws and 65 threes. That screams development plan.

Players like Kuminga are so often misunderstood by their own staffs, and it can take years before a proper pattern of usage develops. He may be one of the longest cons in the draft, but the team willing to be patient and coach up his technique could be rewarded.
