Warriors Draft Prospect Jonathan Kuminga: Defensive

Though he was playing at a higher level than any lottery prospect save his teammate Jalen Green, Kuminga put forth some of the worst defensive tape in this class.

The Ignite’s switch-heavy scheme wasn’t helping, and the relative difficulty of the competition can’t be overstated. Yet Kuminga was painful to watch in just about every aspect of his defensive game.

He was limited in terms of total opportunities, but Kuminga somewhat held his own when playing near the restricted area and on the blocks.

Footwork needs improvement like any young big, but he has a workable sense of verticality and the physical frame to knock opponents off their spots. This will put him in fewer positions to fail on the perimeter and allow his positive physical defensive traits to be used.
