5. Golden State Warriors trade NBA Draft picks

First, we will analyze the potential for the Golden State Warriors to trade their NBA Draft picks. This can occur in a few ways, either in an attempt to jockey position in the draft — or move out of the order altogether to target a star.

Let’s start with the latter option. The Warriors are rumored to be eyeing names like Pascal Siakam, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal and Ben Simmons in exchange for their two lottery picks (and others). As intriguing as these names sound, the cost of throwing away their future is a hefty one to pay.

It might be better for the Warriors to put their eggs into moving up in the draft. Is it worth taking on Kevin Love’s contract in order to secure the third overall pick from Cleveland? Do the Warriors believe enough in Jalen Suggs or Evan Mobley to become franchise cornerstones?

What about jumping all the way to first overall? It feels far-fetched to think Detroit would punt on a superstar prospect like Cade Cunningham but the Warriors would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn’t at least ask.

Overall, the incentive to trade is there for Golden State. But, the reality is, a reasonable return probably isn’t on the table. The Warriors will be hard-pressed to find a deal that benefits them in the long run.

For this reason, trading their picks is (likely) the worst decision the franchise could make on draft night.
