Golden State Warriors: 5 Best options in 2021 NBA Draft
By Tony Pesta
3. Golden State Warriors select James Bouknight
James Bouknight is one prospect who has been garnering quite a bit of attention over the last few weeks. He caught everyone’s attention with electric pre-draft workouts and is shaping up to be a lock for a lottery pick.
This should come as no surprise, considering Bouknight is one of the best shooters in his class. He only connected on 30.4 percent of his attempts last season — but he has that J.R. Smith x-factor to his name. All bets are off when Bouknight is in rhythm.
Most importantly, Bouknight showed comfort being an off-ball shooter and a pull-up threat. This is huge for a young prospect as he can fit in multiple roles for the Golden State Warriors from day one.
Concerns arise when looking at his track record defensively and as a playmaker. Bouknight has work to do in both departments and these aren’t areas the Warriors can afford to make sacrifices. How successful Bouknight is in the NBA will depend heavily on how much he improves as a ball-hawk and passer.
Thankfully, he has all the athleticism and ball-handling needed to make leaps in both departments. His skill as a slasher will open up shots for others. Meanwhile, honing his athleticism and lanky frame to make an impact on defense will come down to simply elevating his effort on this side of the floor.
