3. Golden State Warriors select Jonathan Kuminga in 2021 NBA Draft

One question the Golden State Warriors might have to ask themselves on Thursday is: What do they do if Jonathan Kuminga slips to seventh?

I don’t think anyone in the front office is banking on the star forward dropping this deep into the order. Yet, plenty of mock drafts and other sources close to the league have drastically different predictions for where Kuminga will end up.

It needs to be said that Kuminga isn’t exactly the best fit for Golden State here. He’s a limited shooter who only magnifies their lack of spacing in the frontcourt. With so many concerns around his efficiency and ceiling in the NBA — it might be better for the Warriors to look elsewhere.

However, it is also important to select the best player available to you. Kuminga has humongous upside if he puts his athleticism, size and playmaking all together. Even without becoming a pure shooter, Kuminga has a clear path to stardom as a slasher and creator off the dribble. On top of all this, he’s already shown a potent mid-range shot — lending us to believe he’ll be able to stretch the floor to some extent right away.

Again, Kuminga is a work in progress, there’s no debating that. This is one risk the Warriors will have to consider if he drops to them on draft night.
