Golden State Warriors select Jalen Johnson in 2021 NBA Draft

Again, Jalen Johnson is a prospect who might be available to the Golden State Warriors at either seventh or 14th in the order. If it was up to me, I’d jump on the opportunity to draft Johnson due to his multi-faceted skillset as a forward.

Johnson is another player with great size at 6’9″ who can handle the rock like a guard. He flashed his strengths as a creator in the NCAA despite averaging only 2.2 assists per game. Johnson is comfortable keeping his dribble alive and can complete passes with either hand to open teammates.

He’s going to do most of his damage as a drive-and-kick slasher at the NBA level. Johnson is a gifted athlete who can generate looks for others if he continues to make smart reads once entering the league.

The x-factors here are once again, shooting and defense. Johnson was an above 40 percent 3-point shooter on a small sample size at Duke. His value skyrockets if he’s able to match that efficiency on a higher volume.

Furthermore, Johnson becomes one of the most highly-coveted prototypes if he can defend multiple positions at a league-average level. A forward who can pass, shoot and defend? That’s a dream scenario for the Dubs.
