Why the Golden State Warriors should sign Iguodala: He’s a terrific defender

One reason he was able to stay with the Warriors so long was that Iguodala is elite on the defensive end. Iguodala has made the All-Defensive twice. He also averaged over a steal per game in his first 13 seasons in the NBA.

Iguodala has the ideal frame to guard just about every position. He stands 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan. With Green on the court as well, having two defensive masterminds make it extremely easy for Golden State to switch with ease.

Back in the 2011-2012 season, his lone All-Star appearance, Iggy had under 100 defensive rating for the only time in his career. For four of six of his seasons with the Warriors, his rating was at or under 105.

With Thompson, Wiseman and Green, the Warriors will have the chance to put together a defensive “death” lineup if they can sign Iguodala. His instinct despite his waning athleticism, are that good.

The Warriors need to focus all their attention of bringing in Iguodala and then also another key free agency like Patty Mills.
