Golden State Warriors sign Otto Porter Jr.

Grade: A+

The Golden State Warriors were on the market for a 3-and-D replacement for Kelly Oubre Jr. in the event he leaves them hanging this summer. Providing this roster with enough versatile defenders and shooters to ease Klay Thompson back into his role is a must for the Warriors.

They couldn’t have done much better at a cheaper price than they did with Otto Porter. Convincing him to decline the MLE from other teams and accept the veteran minimum in Golden State was nothing short of a home run for the Warriors.

Porter averaged 9.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists on 37.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line last year. He’s an off-ball threat who fits perfectly in the Dubs’ motion offense and a capable shot-creator off the bench.

His veteran experience combined with his two-way skills makes Porter a dream-like fit in the Bay. And, for the price they got him at, this couldn’t have been a better deal. Porter will become a designated shooter and defender off the bench who can be trusted to be on the floor during crucial periods of the game.
