Golden State Warriors sign Nemanja Bjelica

Grade: A+

Another beautiful signing for the Golden State Warriors, Nemanja Bjelica has agreed to a one-year veteran minimum to help bolster the Dubs’ frontcourt.

Don’t get me wrong, the Warriors have a strong collection of frontcourt talent. Kevin Looney is a respectable role player, James Wiseman is a promising young center and Draymond Green is… Draymond Green. Even Jonathan Kuminga, for as raw of a prospect as he might be, is an exciting small-ball forward to slot into the lineup.

However, one thing none of those guys can do is space the floor at a high rate. For this reason, Bjelica has a clearly defined role with the team. Though he had a down year in terms of 3-point shooting (31.8 percent) he is still a career 38.7 percent shooter from deep and can provide the Warriors with all of the frontcourt shooting they need.

Bjelica isn’t going to play massive minutes or dominate the game by any means. But, his value as a booster shot of spacing on the bench is immense. This signing provides the Warriors with an extra cushion of veteran leadership and 3-point shooting throughout the course of a long season.

Above all else, these two signings allow the Warriors to keep their $5.7 million dollar mid-level exception in play. One more quality addition could thrust them directly into title contention.
