Golden State Warriors should pursue Wesley Matthews
Wesley Matthews has been bouncing around the league from title contender to title contender recently. Thus far, he hasn’t lucked out and been able to win a championship. Perhaps his fortunes can change with the Golden State Warriors.
Over the last two seasons, Matthews has played roles in Milwaukee and Los Angeles. Each time, he filled their need for a veteran wing who can defend opposing scorers and act as a catch-and-shoot threat on offense.
This sounds like a great fit for the Dubs. They already have prototypical 3-and-D players like Andrew Wiggins, Otto Porter Jr. and maybe Kelly Oubre — but none have the years of high-level experience that Matthews does.
Matthews is a career 37.9 percent 3-point shooter and has maintained his reputation as an above-average defender even with age. He’s certainly declining at 34 but there is enough reason to think he can benefit the Dubs in a limited role on the bench.
