Golden State Warriors should NOT pursue Justise Winslow

One player who can emerge as a potentially under-the-radar target for the Golden State Warriors is Justise Winslow. His skill set as a multi-faceted defender and playmaker is intriguing — but there is more flash than fire to his game.

Winslow was such a promising prospect entering the league. Even in his disappointing stints with Miami and Memphis, Winslow flashed his exciting ceiling as a versatile forward who can create plays and drill 3-pointers. If he ever blossomed into a truly impactful defender, Winslow would have been an All-Star.

But, entering year seven in the NBA, Winslow has relentlessly underwhelmed. He posts career averages of 8.8 points and 2.6 assists per game, never truly expanding his range to the 3-point line or creating plays at a high rate.

Last season, the Warriors might have considered taking a flyer on Winslow to see if they can squeeze any hidden potential out of him. Now, the risk is just not worth it. They’d rather focus all of their energy on Jonathan Kuminga — a prospect who has a chance to become everything Winslow did not.
