Golden State Warriors can consider Dennis Schroder

Dennis Schroder wasn’t even on the Golden State Warriors’ radar heading into free agency. Truthfully, he still might not be — but that isn’t because he is necessarily out of their price range anymore.

At the start of the summer, it felt like a lock that Schroder would make a splash in free agency. So much so, that Schroder made the decision to decline an $84 million dollar extension with the Los Angeles Lakers because he thought he could crack the $100 million dollar mark on his own.

So far, Schroder has come up short. No team has made such an offer and there is a growing feeling that maybe he would be best suited taking a one-year deal for the MLE and attempting to earn his payday next summer.

Is Golden State the place for Schroder to accomplish this? Probably not. The basis of signing the MLE for the sake of buffing your worth next summer is a selfish one that should turn the Dubs away from signing Schroder in the first place.

Nevertheless, you can’t deny his talent. Schroder is a fantastic perimeter defender with above-average playmaking chops and adequate scoring ability. He’d be a perfect sixth man for the Warriors if he truly buys into winning a championship and accepts a drastic paycut.
