Golden State Warriors: 3 free agent veteran point guards still available
With the Golden State Warriors having a couple of roster spots available, they need to turn their focus to signing a backup point guard. They have Jordan Poole on the second unit and potentially 2020 second-round pick Nico Mannion.
I’d be shocked if they gave Mannion the duties behind two-time MVP Stephen Curry from the start of the season. Poole could certainly be an option, but his style of play yields more to that of a traditional shooting guard.
The Golden State Warriors have checked just about every box in free agency except backup point guard, and it’s a role they still need to fill.
Last offseason, the Warriors were looking to make adding a backup point guard a priority. In doing so, they signed former Celtics guard Brad Wanamaker. They eventually traded him to Charlotte prior to the 2021 trade deadline.
While no report has surfaced, they should once again be looking to add a backup point guard. In this free agency, they’ve signed forward Andre Iguodala, forward Otto Porter Jr., and forward Nemanja Bjelica. In the draft, they added another shooting guard and a small forward.
They need a backup point guard to captain the unit when Curry is out. That said, let’s dive into three veteran point guard still available in free agency.
