Golden State Warriors potential free agent signing: Wesley Matthews

Former Lakers and Bucks guard Wesley Matthews has fallen off a cliff these last few seasons. He was brought into Los Angeles to compete with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for that starting shooting guard role, and he drastically disappointed.

The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 4.8 points per game, the lowest of his career. He shot just over 35 percent from the field as well, also the lowest of his career.

It was a tough showing for Matthews who used to be considered one of the premier 3-and-D guards in the league. During his best season with the Portland Trail Blazers, Matthews averaged over 16 points and drilled 2.5 triples per game.

Matthews, despite his struggles these last couple of seasons, still averages 2.0 threes per game on his career and has a 38 percent career three-point percentage. That’s good enough to take a chance on, especially with his defensive aptitude.

Could Matthews’ addition make the Warriors a championship contender? Probably not, but it would help them immensely until Klay Thompson returns.
