With Rajon Rondo having been traded and looking likely to be dealt again, the Golden State Warriors need to pay the price for the veteran point guard. Rondo is owed $7.5 million which may be what holds the Warriors back from adding him.

Rondo has been on a title-contending team for the last several seasons and was instrumental in helping the Lakers win the title. He spent two years with the Lakers before spending one season with the Clippers.

The Golden State Warriors need a veteran point guard, and Rajon Rondo, who was recently traded to Memphis, could be the perfect addition.

Now headed to Memphis, Rondo most likely won’t stay there as the Grizzlies have a “packed” roster and are “open-minded” on the future of the players they recently added for Eric Bledsoe, who they acquired in a three-team blockbuster deal from New Orleans.

Rondo is a surefire future Hall of Famer. He’s led the league in steals once and in assists three times. On top of that, he’s been on multiple championship-winning teams. He’s been instrumental in both the Celtics’ and Lakers’ title runs.

The Warriors could use that exact type of player. With Jordan Poole on the second unit as well, Golden State could use less of an elite scorer and more of a tenured floor general.

After paying the luxury tax for Kelly Oubre Jr. and wasting that opportunity, they may be reluctant to spend the money on Rondo. For now, it seems unlikely as the price is likely too steep, but the Warriors’ last major hole is a backup point guard.

Last season, Rondo averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 assists per game. One nice touch though is that he’s drastically improved his three-point shooter, hitting over 40 percent of his attempts last season.

That’s not a sole reason to pay the price, but it is a factor that’s important.

While Gary Payton II has played well in the Summer League, having an inexperienced backup is not ideal. As the team figured out with Brad Wanamaker, having a semi-experienced point guard can also be underwhelming.

Rondo is the ideal addition, but just because it’s the perfect fit doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bound to happen. Regardless, expect Rondo to be re-dealt in the near future.
