James Wiseman must become a rim-runner for the Golden State Warriors

Coincidentally, James Wiseman’s sophomore goals are pretty much the same as his rookie ones. Can you rebound the ball, block shots and finish shots in the paint? If the answer is yes, then you’re set for a prolific second season.

Here is the thing: we know Wiseman has the physical capacity to do all of the great things that players like Deandre Ayton, Rudy Gobert and even Myles Turner can do. The only concern is, how quickly can Wiseman integrate himself into the Warriors’ tight-nit system next to Draymond Green in the frontcourt.

Green likely gave Wiseman a bit of slack as a rookie but he won’t do the same as expectations and pressure mounts for the team. Wiseman is going to be barked at and directed all over the floor. At a certain point, Wiseman will either become a natural or crumble under constant scrutiny. Our hope is the first option.

While it sounds easy to run rim-to-rim in the NBA, there is a steep learning curve for big men. Mastering the minute details of playing help defense and rolling hard to the rim will be the determining factor for Wiseman next season.
