James Wiseman is an uber-talented prospect, who showed glimpses of superstar potential last season. However, Wiseman still struggled mightily with the Warriors system and the off-ball movement.
It’s pretty evident that Wiseman has the tools and talents to be a potent player in the NBA. In all likelihood, if Wiseman had gone to a team with lesser expectations, he would’ve averaged 18 and 10.
With the Golden State Warriors having done little to bolster the center, they’ll look to enter the new season with James Wiseman or Kevon Looney as a starter.
Yet, on the Warriors, Wiseman has a role to play. The Warriors have championship aspirations while also trying to build for the future. Wiseman can help, but just how much is unsure. Wiseman has shown the ability to score.
As a third or fourth option last season, Wiseman averaged 11.5 points per game while showing great touch and solid shot-making ability. If you look deeper at Wiseman’s per-36 minute statistics, that average jumps to over 19 points per game.
However, with the Warriors now, Wiseman is unlikely to see the offense go through him with the starters. He won’t have the ball thrown to him in the post, nor will he be given the confidence to isolate a defender and go to work.
