Warriors starting center: Why Kevon Looney should start

Kevon Looney has proven to fit what the Warriors need as a starting center. A long-time favorite of head coach Steve Kerr, Looney represents everything the Warriors need in a starting center.

Looney is not a demanding offensive presence, which is good with so much talent around him, but he converts when needed. With a career field goal percentage over 60, Looney often rim runs and gets offensive rebounds.

Looney is also a good defender. He stands his ground in the paint and doesn’t allow for easy baskets.

The attention is always away from Looney, so it’s hard to notice him on the floor, but that’s a good thing for these Warriors. He does what is asked of him. Looney on the second unit doesn’t fit well. He’s more likely to fall out of the rotation than stay on the second unit.

Looney is unable to score at a high level and will often get lost on the second unit. This was shown last year. Both Wiseman and Looney played better when their roles were reversed. Looney plays so well in the structure of the Warriors system, whereas Wiseman needs the freedom of the second unit.
